The Sip
I could smell the honey as soon as I opened the bottle, but on the first taste it was the smoothness from the vanilla and a floral tones that drew me in. The gin has 9 botanicals, including juniper, coriander seeds, almonds, vanilla, lemon, elderflower, hibiscus, and of course raspberries, and honey.
It felt like it at each point I could taste them all.
The Serve
I would say this gin stands well enough on its own, so have had with a plain tonic and ice. But if you would like to add anything raspberries of course will be perfect. I’m also going to experiment with rose and hibiscus as well the violet tonic from Artisan drinks.
A little about the makers
No. 186 Gin was created by husband and wife, Matt and Lynsey Postlethwaite, the founders of No 186 bar in Manchester. In 2013 Matt was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and the couple became passionate about gin when looking for low-sugar drinks. After years of tastings and experimenting with different gins they decided to create their own gin, sweetened naturally with raspberries, vanilla and honey with no added sugar.
And that’s not all for every bottle you sold, they give back by donating 2000 litres of water to communities in Africa that need it most.
