The Sip
This is a smooth dry gin - the flavour that comes through for me is Grapefruit, its herbaceous but with a hint of sweetness. In summary it’s as classy as the black and gold bottle.
The Serve
Over lots of ice, with a plain tonic (Lixir is perfect). To start with, as herbaceous gin, you have to decide if you want more herb and add Rosemary, or bring out the citrus. For me I love a balance, so I added grapefruit slice (dried from Fruitanicals) you could also add in lemon instead.
A little about the makers
No. 186 Gin was created by husband and wife, Matt and Lynsey Postlethwaite, the founders of 'One Eight Six' bar in Manchester. In 2013 Matt was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and the couple became passionate about gin when looking for low-sugar drinks. After years of tastings and experimenting with different gins they decided to create their own gin, sweetened naturally with raspberries, vanilla and honey with no added sugar.
And that’s not all for every bottle you sold, they give back by donating 2000 litres of water to communities in Africa that need it most.
