Hooting Owl Distillery
The Hooting Owl Distillery, based in the historic village of Barmby Moor in the Yorkshire Wolds, takes inspiration and flavours from around the Yorkshire region to create a top-quality range of hand-crafted, small batch spirits.
Barmby Moor House, home of Hooting Owl Distillery has centuries of history as a coach inn and public house, reputed to have even provided rest and refreshments to a young Queen Victoria!! When Sarah and Dom acquired the building in 2017 and began renovations, they found a hidden safe containing a bottle of gin and a notebook belonging to one previous resident of the building, Sir Owlfred Tyton Hodgins, upon reading the notebook they discovered Sir Owlfred had used the stables as a gin distillery perhaps as early as 1865, inspired by the Yorkshire Countryside and had even written recipes.... With the stables still standing, this spectacular find inspired Sarah and Dom to follow in Sir Owlfred's footsteps, and in 2018 they began creating artisan gins inspired by the four corners of their beautiful county!
