15% Off – Orkney Gin Company, Johnsmas Gin
50cl
41.3% ABV
Our Johnsmas Gin is inspired by the long, clear days of an Orkney Summer where the sun barely sets behind the standing stones of the Ring of Brodgar. Fragrant, fresh and light, Johnsmas Gin is crafted using a variety of hand picked seasonal botanicals from our islands and beyond to capture the clean and refreshing floral notes of midsummer. The flavour of our gins may vary slightly from batch to batch, although we follow the same precise recipe. This is due to the natural variations in the botanicals used and we feel this adds to the character of our unique creations.
The Sip and Share price is calculated as follows: we take 10% off the RRP and then add postage on. This is because the distillers do not make any money, in fact they make a loss when it comes to postage.
Price includes delivery and will be fulfilled by the distillery. For any issues with delivery or product please contact: Orkney Gin Company
About the Distiller
Our spirits are produced on the Isle of Burray, Orkney– the ‘Broch Isle’ of Scapa Flow.
At Orkney Gin Company we hand craft our gins and other spirits in order to retain the full flavour of our botanicals and ensure the highest quality product. Our method of making our gins takes us back hundreds of years to the bathtub method. Our gin is distilled seven times to ensure the highest of quality, then we add botanicals in stages over varied time periods to our ultra-small batches. Then we filter our gin, and sample often. Our spirits are made slightly different, they are distilled one more time with both fresh and dried botanicals making eight distillations. All our products are carefully made, bottled and labelled by our family; creating completely unique spirits with distinct flavours, colour and smell, reflecting the islands we call home.
Orkney's rich culture of traditions formed the inspiration behind each distinct taste. Our spirits are made using traditional techniques, we don't believe in rushing to get to the end product, and we like to keep our company as a small family business, nothing corporate or over the top. We use as many hand-picked (foraged) and home grown Orcadian botanicals as we can find around us. These would have been used by our ancestors in the past for cooking and drinks making. We love to look at old cookery books from local areas for new ingredients and combinations, and we are always looking for more fresh ingredients around us while we walk around Orkney.
Our labels and bottles were inspired by the beautiful stoneware and glassware we are sometimes lucky enough to find washed up on Orkney's beaches. Each bottle is carefully cleaned by hand, then filled with our hand-crafted spirit. We cork each bottle ourselves - not an easy job after a few! Each label is then placed on by hand. You may see that our Rhubarb Old Tom and Johnsmas bottles are now printed. This is to reduce the use of plastic labels and to ensure they can be reused easily (trust us - getting those labels off after use is not easy!). It also means that instead of adding an extra step - moving all the 'naked' bottles into boxes while bottling, then clearing up and making space, and bringing them back out to label - we are now able to pop our tamper seal and shrink capsule on while bottling, and box them up all in one day. Our distillery is very small so little changes like this can make a huge difference to us.
Our logo depicts a Selkie-Woman. Stories of the elusive Selkie-Folk - seals which are able to cast their skin and assume human form - highlight how mysterious and alluring these shape shifting creatures may have been. The tales of their interactions with humans have been passed down through generations of Orcadians and on to our bottles today.
